The AS9100 Quality Control Manager is responsible for ensuring the quality management system (QMS) aligns with the requirements of the AS9100 standard, which is specific to the aerospace industry. This position involves overseeing the quality control processes, ensuring compliance with industry standards, leading audits, and implementing continuous improvement strategies to maintain high standards of product quality and safety. The manager will lead a team of quality control personnel and collaborate with various departments to drive quality initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Quality Management System (QMS):
    • Develop, implement, and maintain the company’s QMS in alignment with AS9100 standards.
    • Ensure compliance with internal and external audits for certification and surveillance audits.
    • Oversee the preparation of the QMS documentation, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Quality Control:
    • Manage quality control activities to ensure products meet established quality standards.
    • Oversee inspections, testing, and verification of products at various stages of production.
    • Work with production teams to resolve quality issues, prevent defects, and implement corrective actions.
  • Leadership & Team Management:
    • Lead, mentor, and train the quality control team to improve performance and ensure adherence to quality procedures.
    • Ensure that all team members are adequately trained on AS9100 standards and best practices.
    • Foster a culture of quality and continuous improvement within the department.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    • Implement and drive continuous improvement initiatives through techniques such as Six Sigma, Lean, or other relevant methodologies.
    • Analyze data to identify trends, and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) to reduce defects and improve processes.
  • Supplier Management:
    • Coordinate with suppliers to ensure the quality of incoming materials and components meets AS9100 standards.
    • Manage the supplier qualification process and conduct supplier audits as needed.
  • Documentation & Reporting:
    • Maintain accurate records of inspections, test results, and quality control activities.
    • Generate reports and metrics to track quality performance and highlight areas for improvement.
    • Prepare and present quality performance reports to senior management.
    • Customer & Regulatory Compliance:
      • Address customer complaints related to product quality and ensure effective resolution.
      • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory standards, including safety, environmental, and aerospace industry-specific requirements.
    • Qualifications:
    • Education:
      •  Quality Management, or a related field. A certification in Quality Management (e.g., ASQ Certified Quality Manager) is preferred.
    • Experience:
      • At least 5 years of experience in a manufacturing quality control or quality assurance role within the aerospace industry.
      • In-depth knowledge of AS9100 standards and experience managing QMS audits.
      • Proven experience in managing a quality control team, including developing and implementing training programs.
    • Skills:
      • Strong leadership and team management abilities.
      • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
      • Solid understanding of quality tools and methodologies such as FMEA, SPC, root cause analysis, and corrective action.
      • Proficiency with quality management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
    • Certifications:
      • AS9100 Lead Auditor or Internal Auditor certification is highly desirable.
      • Six Sigma or Lean certifications are a plus.
    • Physical Requirements:
      Ability to work in a manufacturing or production environment. Occasional travel may be required for supplier audits or customer visits.

      Working Conditions:
      This position will be based in a [manufacturing/office] environment with periodic site visits to production areas. Standard working hours with occasional extended hours depending on the needs of the business.
